The start of a new week is a beautiful thing – a new start
is always powerful. A new week is like opening the first page of a blank
notebook, the unfurling of a new flower – refreshing and filled with promises.
This blank sheet is waiting on your words, your ideas, your dreams. With a new
week comes the opportunity to start anew. Even if you have unfinished projects
from the week before, you can now revamp and start anew with fresh eyes.
This week is not just another Monday. It’s an opportunity to
reset, refocus, and remind yourself that every single day presents new
opportunities. Growth and development, the beginning of a new milestone, begin
as soon as you open your eyes on this brand-new day and week.
Like so many people, once I started working somewhere along
the line, Mondays began to be my least favorite day. Yet, when I was a student,
I loved Mondays because I meant going to school, learning and seeing my
friends. But as the initial excitement of working died, so came the
Monday blues. Throughout my working life, the Monday blues have ebbed and
flowed. A new job came with excitement and a desire to be immersed in the new
culture. Then reality sets in – mundane tasks, leaders that weren’t
leading, some more like dragons, fear, anger, and a litany of other
things…Monday blues were back.
Overcoming the Monday Blues
So, how did I overcome the Monday blues? It was a gradual
progress, and there are still Mondays that I wish were still the weekend. Part
of my progress was to find out why I dreaded Mondays. I was honest with myself
and accepted that a big part of the blues was that my workplace was toxic, and
I dreaded going in and interacting with some of my colleagues. I started to
prepare myself for Monday by:
Self-talk: I engaged in a lot of self-talk and reminded myself that, despite the toxic workplace, there
were lovely people there. I also hold onto something a Christian coworker told
me once, ‘work onto God and not man”. From then on, whenever the Monday blues
hit, I just smiled and knew that my God was in control.
Reset: I start
my Mondays by planning the day and week. The time spent on planning is not
wasted; it helps to ensure that I am prepared. Of course, there will be
deviations as things happen, but it makes getting back on track so much easier.

So today, don’t face Monday with dread, see it as:
An opportunity to write or refine your goals
Look at challenges in a new light; remind yourself that a
challenge can be a stepping stone to something better.
A chance to learn something new
There is excitement in learning new skills. Alison.com is
my best friend. Each week, I discover a new free course to explore.
Step Into the Week with Purpose: Small Actions, Big
Impact
The week ahead might not unfold perfectly—but it can still
be meaningful. Every action you take has the power to bring you closer
to your vision, your goals, and the person you’re becoming.
If you’re ready to approach the days ahead with intention,
begin with small, simple steps:
Put it on paper. Use a journal or planner to
capture your goals and keep them front and center. I love this beautiful,
minimal weekly planner for staying organized.
Nourish your mind. Just 15 minutes with a great
book or inspiring podcast can spark fresh ideas. One of my favorite go-to
resources is The Travel Writing Skool for both
inspiration and fun networking with amazing people.
So, take a deep breath. Let a smile find its way to your
face. Step into this week with courage, faith, and gratitude. The possibilities
are limitless—and they’re waiting for you to claim them.
Today, make this week your canvas by choosing how to color
it, even the down days; you can determine how to color the grays. This isn’t
about perfect, but Mondays - the beginning of the new week- is a promise of
opportunities.
